At the end of the first free practice session it is Sergio Perez with the fastest time in Monaco. The Mexican of Red Bull Racing was one-tenth faster than Carlos Sainz, who set an excellent first free practice for Ferrari. Max Verstappen followed close behind with third place. Behind him it wasn't a Mercedes driver, but it was an old friend.

Pierre Gasly, in his AlphaTauri, managed to set the fourth fastest time, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. Lando Norris in the retro McLaren-livery drove the seventh time, followed by Sebastian Vettel. Finally, the top ten was filled by rookie Yuki Tsunoda and the Alfa Romeo of Kimi Raikkonen.
