Vettel supports Hamilton on environment stance
Sebastian Vettel has backed up his rival Lewis Hamilton in his call for people to become more environmentally friendly, after the Brit received a backlash on an Instagram post recently. Hamilton encouraged more people to follow his lead to turn vegan, but received comments from fans and even more high profile names, such as former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso.
The five-time champion has been vegan since the beginning of 2018 and he urged fans to copy his diet to help cut greenhouse gases, and whilst he may not be vegan, Vettel has backed up his on-track rival, saying that it would be "ignorant" to let the issue get any worse.
During the Mexican Grand Prix press conference, the German said: "I don't follow Lewis on Instagram because I'm not active on social media, but I think the point is very clear. We would be ignorant not to deal with this situation.
"For our part it is difficult to be accepted from the outside, because we travel and the races are all over the world. In general, Formula 1 needs to do more, we have a worldwide distribution, we must send a positive message.
"I personally believe that anyone can contribute minimally, and the difference would be enormous. It is inevitable that change will come and we hope it will happen as soon as possible."
