Former Ferrari star on Leclerc: "He's already a big star"
Four time F1 champion Alain Prost says that Charles Leclerc is "already a big star" in F1 and adds that he is close to being the number one driver at Ferrari. Leclerc has two victories to his name and has shown a huge improvement since before the summer break, with four consecutive pole positions coming in the four racing following the break.
The Monegasque took wins in Belgium and Italy and sits third in the championship, 11 points ahead of his much more experienced teammate Sebastian Vettel, leading to many calling for him to be given number one status at the team.
Prost spent almost two seasons with Ferrari in 1990 and 91 before being sacked after criticising the Scuderia, winning five races and finishing second in the championship to McLaren's Ayrton Senna in his first season with the team.
The Frenchman told BFM TV: “He’s already a big star. He has adapted very quickly to almost number-one status in a team like Ferrari that never took a young driver before. It’s the first time for them.
“Withstanding pressure like that is not so obvious, even if there were some difficulties at times. But it is still a quite impressive maturity.”
