Ferrari have announced their partnership with Cadillac's Formula 1 team. This means that the Italian Scuderia will supply engines and gearboxes for the future 11th team on the grid, starting from the 2026 season.

Ferrari announces partnership with Cadillac

"Ferrari is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with General Motors and TWG Global to supply the Cadillac Formula 1 Team with its power unit and gearbox starting in 2026," reads Ferrari's statement on their website.

"It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States. We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. It means we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari," Frederic Vasseur commented on the partnership.

Cadillac F1's recently named team principal Graeme Lowdon is also looking forward to their partnership with the Italians. "We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies. Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people."

Ferrari were already mentioned as the main candidate to supply engines to the new F1 team. They eventually want to produce their own engines but that will not begin immediately in the 2026. Until then, a supplier is needed, and that will be Ferrari, who already have Sauber and Haas as custormers. The partnership with Sauber will come to an end in 2026 when Audi appear on the grid as a factory team. Previously, talking exclusively to GPblog, Director of the Board at Cadillac and former world champion Mario Andretti said 'he hopes' that his team will have a Ferrari engine.

Cadillac will be the first new team to join the competition since 2016 in F1 and the 11th team on the grid. According to General Motors, one of the world's largest car manufacturers, F1 was chosen because of the sport's innovation, with an eye on the future of the transportation business. GM hope to use the knowledge gained in F1 for consumer cars, such as advanced electrification, powertrain, software and internal combustion engine technology. According to GM, F1 is also an excellent opportunity to increase brand awareness.
