Winsdor unsure over Newey's next team: 'Doesn't feel right"
Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull. This was confirmed at the Miami Grand Prix at the start of May. However, his next destination still seems unclear. Rumours have linked him with nearly every team on the grid, with the most recent being Aston Martin. This is how F1 analyst Peter Windsor feels about a potential move to Aston Martin.
'Doesn't feel right'
Aston Martin have been on the back foot for the majority of 2024. They came flying out the blocks in 2023 and challenged the dominant Red Bull of Max Verstappen for a brief time, before falling away and no longer challenging at the front. If Newey were to move to Aston Martin, Peter Winsdor believes it would be a strange move for the legendary designer. "We should all be ready for the shock of that and I think the time has come to say that that looks as if it's going to happen, very sad."
However, Winsdor went on to speak about why Newey would choose Aston Martin over Ferrari or McLaren, believing that Newey would "want total control of everything. Who's hired and fired, how it's done and, rejigging of the drawing office! Ferrari probably said, well no we're not going to give you all that control."
Windsor also believes that the reason McLaren haven't gone up against Aston Martin for Newey's signature isn't just money. "They don't need Adrian Newey right now. They are doing such a good job anyway."
Newey is yet to announce his plans for the 2025 season, but he was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to launch the RB17 hypercar as his final project with the Red Bull team.
