Hamilton faces odd challenge at Ferrari: "Otherwise I won't fit in the car"
While most of the world is focused on whether or not Lewis Hamilton will be able to vy for his eighth world title in his Ferrari debut season, or if he's going to be able to beat his teammate, Charles Leclerc, the Briton is actually concerned with a different challenge altogether: Italian food.
During the post SF-25 shakedown press session at Ferrari's headquarters, Hamilton addressed the many difficulties that lie ahead of his Ferrari debut season. One of them was the Italian cuisine.
"The honest truth is I've had already quite a few pizzas, but somehow I've lost weight," said the Briton with surprise, before elaborating on his most recent 'pizza bender.' "Last week I had three pizzas. I love Italian food. I always have."
Hamilton looks back on his early Mercedes days alongside former teammate Nico Rosberg. "I remember coming out here and definitely I remember when I was racing Nico [Rosberg] at the time, me and him when we used to go out and get gelato every freaking night and we used to eat a lot of pizza."
Will Hamilton be able to resist the pizza temptation?
However, the trip down memory lane doesn't stop there. The seven-time world champion even recalls a fond memory from his early racing days, "I had this unbelievable lasagna which was made by my first mechanic, who was Luca del Fonte, and his wife's mother, [they] made me the most insane lasagna when I was 13 years old. And I never forgot about it."
One thing is clear, Hamilton will need to have some restraint when it comes to eating, if he doesn't, he risks this 'terrible consequence.' "I'm gonna have to watch my diet. That's going to be hard. I've got to be careful. I can't eat pizzas all year long, otherwise I won't fit in the car," concluded the new Ferrari driver.
