Gasly unhappy with race: 'Couldn't match Alonso's pace'

Pierre Gasly finished just outside the top ten at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Frenchman started from P2 after the grid penalties of Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas, but points were out of the question.
"I think objectively our pace was shocking. We both started in the top 10 and went massively backwards. When with the two stop strategy I tired to push as hard as I could but slid a lot and overheating the tyres a lot. We don't have the answers yet," Gasly told Sky Sports after the race.
Gasly unable to match Alonso's times
Alpine on the other hand had a very strong race. Fernando Alonso finished third on the podium and Esteban Ocon also picked up a lot of points for the team with a P5. It ensures that Alpine is further ahead of AlphaTauri in the constructors' championship.
"Clearly it was very frustrating. We can only say congratulations to them. They were strong today despite starting ahead of them. When they told me the lap times of Fernando I couldn't match him. They did a better job and next time we will try to be better", Gasly ends.
