The Japanese Grand Prix cannot take place this year but for all disappointed fans Honda will come up with an alternative next week. On the website of the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer an online event called 'Honda Japanese Virtual Grand Prix' will be organised.

No Japan GP again

Actually the Japanese GP was supposed to take place this weekend, but due to the strict coronavirus restrictions it was cancelled. For that reason the race will be held in Turkey. By AS-Web Masashi Yamamoto was asked how this initiative came about from Honda.

"We had a number of plans ready to bring Red Bull, AlphaTauri and our fans together in what is Honda's last year [in Formula 1]," said the top executive. "Since the Japanese Grand Prix is no longer happening, we wanted to create an opportunity for our fans to be as delighted as they can be. With the help of Red Bull and AlphaTauri, we've decided to host an online event during the Turkish Grand Prix."

Exactly what the programme will look like is not yet entirely clear, but Yamamoto does announce that fans will be able to ask questions of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda. "On Thursday, October 7, we will hold a Q&A with the four Honda drivers. On Sunday we will have Q&A with myself and Tanabe, technical director of Honda F1."
