Sergio Pérez seemed to be ready for qualifying at the Dutch Grand Prix with his contract extension in his pocket, but nothing was further from the truth. The Mexican couldn't achieve more than a sixteenth time and will therefore have to start from the back of the grid for Sunday afternoon's race.
Red Bull Racing expressed their confidence in Pérez that he will help the team to improve the car in the coming season. It seemed like the right helping hand to get a more stable performance in the coming months, but in the qualification of the Dutch GP Pérez was disappointing.
In front of the cameras of Sky Sports he reacts to his qualification, about which he is not satisfied at all. "Very disappointed today. We had such a fantastic car and we were making a lot of progress. We had a lot of potential for today. At the end, people were punching holes in the pitlane and we missed a few seconds."
Verstappen battles for pole position
His teammate Max Verstappen is fighting for pole position in Q3. The Dutchman drove an excellent third free practice session that gave a lot of confidence for qualifying. However, the times are close all weekend, so it will be exciting.
