Russell to Mercedes: 'I think this is the right thing to do'
- GPblog.com
Mercedes look set to soon reveal the news that George Russell will be their new driver next season. The Briton will then have to collect points for the German team together with his fellow countryman Lewis Hamilton. Carlos Sainz thinks it is a good development.
It has been rumoured for months that Russell is the successor to Valtteri Bottas. The Williams driver has been performing extremely well in his car this season, while the Finn can't seem to compete with Hamilton. The switch to Russell therefore seems to be a matter of time.
"I think this is the right thing to do, it's a natural transition", Sainz told Motorsport.com. "What's really nice is that we all get along, although at some point I'm sure there will be some fights that will heat up the atmosphere. But we all love Formula 1, it's a natural transition that I'm sure will be good for the future of the sport."
Sainz hopes for better GP
Sainz had a less than perfect weekend in Belgium. The driver failed to perform in the free practice sessions and qualifying, but expects to do better during the Dutch Grand Prix.
