Toto Wolff revealed after qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix that a decision has now been made as to who will join Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2022. However, the team boss of the Brackley formation does not want to reveal the name of the driver at this stage.

In a conversation in which among others Motorsport-Total.com Wolff was asked if the choice of drivers for next season has already been made. Wolff answers quite short: "Yes." However, we will have to wait and see if it has become Valtteri Bottas or George Russell.

Wolff sees Russell excelling

In any case, Wolff is impressed with what Russell showed Saturday afternoon. "I'm a little bit disappointed because he should have been on pole," he jokes. "But no, I think we know what we have in George."

It's not entirely clear whether the drivers themselves know where they stand, but it looks like they do. Wolff says: "I have always been very honest." The announcement could take some time, as Mercedes want to place the driver who missed out on the spot with another team first before they make the unveiling.
