Max Verstappen showed the strength of Red Bull Racing in the first and second free practice session of the Styrian Grand Prix. The Dutch driver immediately set the fastest time of the session and stayed ahead of big competitor Lewis Hamilton.

The Austrian team made a strong impression in France last weekend. Whilst Verstappen managed to overtake Hamilton to take the victory, Sergio Pérez was also a lot faster than Valtteri Bottas. This weekend Red Bull seem to have the best set-up for a victory. "Similar to the last race we can do a few small changes to make the car perfect," stated Helmut Marko after the first free practice session in conversation with ServusTV.

Red Bull showed during the morning session that they were not only doing well in the short runs, but were also at a very high level in the long runs. Red Bull's advisor is therefore expecting a lot from the race. "Should it stay like this, I can do nothing but be satisfied," he said.

Mercedes in FP1

Mercedes had to settle for third and fourth positions in the first free practice session. Sergio Pérez didn't get further than the thirteenth final time, which means he still has plenty of work to do with his team.
