Gasly felt sorry for Hamilton: "There was no chance"

With a sixth-place, Pierre Gasly achieved his best result of the season in Monaco. He had to hold off none other than the world champion. For 78 laps, Gasly had Lewis Hamilton in the mirrors of his AlphaTauri.
Good points scored
Gasly managed to qualify sixth ahead of Hamilton on the streets of Monte Carlo and eventually held that position in the race. "I was really happy after Monaco because we know it's quite a challenging circuit both for the drivers and for the car," the Frenchman told Crash.net. "It was a well prepared flawless weekend from all of us and we managed to score some good points, so that was great."
Feeling sorry for Hamilton
Except for the pit stops, Gasly then had Hamilton behind him for the entire race. "I felt sorry for him. He was stuck behind me for 78 laps, but there was actually no chance to overtake." Gasly was therefore surprised that the Mercedes driver went into the pits earlier. "That was not the right thing to do. But yes, in the end, it was better for us. We were able to score some more points and I think that was a strong result for the team."
Good hopes for Baku
Next weekend, Formula 1 is in Azerbaijan and Gasly is hopeful that the car can perform well here. In 2019, the last time Formula One was here, his teammate Daniil Kvyat qualified sixth. "Daniil was very fast last time here. It has been a good circuit for the team."
Still, he doesn't want to have too high expectations. "I've learned not to have expectations in F1. Because sometimes you think you are going to be fast and then it will be a challenging weekend, sometimes you think it is going to be a difficult weekend and then it is really good. So yeah, we'll just go out on the track and see how it goes."
