Sergio Perez has completed his first five races for Red Bull Racing, but is not quite where he would like to be. The Mexican has yet to visit the podium in Red Bull colours, but is improving and says he is learning a lot from Max Verstappen.

Perez was given the chance at Red Bull Racing in 2021, to drive for a top team. For the Mexican, it's not easy, as he joins a team that is already built around Verstappen. Perez managed to qualify ahead of Verstappen in Imola and has already had a couple of brilliant overtaking races.

''I had hoped to be a bit higher up now. I missed a huge opportunity in Imola with my mistake. I should have finished second. At times you can see the speed I have, but I'm not consistent enough yet. Hopefully, it will improve every weekend," Perez said to Ziggo Sport. The Mexican says he can learn a lot from Verstappen.

"I have learned how he gets the most out of the car. He has been here for a while and knows very well how to get that 110 percent out of the car. That's nice for me. There is no point in reinventing the wheel because you can see that Max's way works. So I'm trying to emulate him,'' Perez concludes. The fact that he does not want to do it his own way is an important reason why Helmut Marko is so positive about him
