Marko expects Verstappen to be strong in Monaco: 'He is really hungry to win'

For Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen, the Monaco GP weekend is the chance to showcase the speed of the RB16B. Traditionally Red Bull is the fastest car on the street circuit, but Mercedes have been the faster car so far in 2021. Nevertheless Helmut Marko expects success for the Dutchman.
He expects Verstappen to reach the podium this year, something he has not managed so far in his F1 career. "When he was younger, he hit the barrier here twice. On top of that, last time in Monaco he was stuck behind Hamilton for the whole race with a faster car. He's really hungry to win," Marko explained in conversation with Krone Zeitung.
Marko is confident
With every race the tension between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton seems to build up further. Zak Brown, McLaren's team boss, has already let it be known that he can see the two rivals crashing again this season. "The danger of a crash is obviously very high here, but Max's starts so far have all been very good," Marko observes.
The Red Bull advisor draws motivation from the good result in Barcelona two weeks ago. "In Barcelona we were very fast in the third sector, where there are only slow corners. So that does create optimism, because it means we are also fast here," Marko said.
