Leclerc puts money on Verstappen in fight for world title
- GPblog.com
Prior to the 2021 F1 season it was already expected that the battle for the world title this year would be between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. After just two races this seems to be the reality. The two drivers have a street length lead on the rest of the field. Also, the drivers of the other teams realise this.
Charles Leclerc, for example, who doesn't have to think long when La Stampa asks him which of the two will be world champion. "If I had to bet a euro on one of those two? Verstappen. The Red Bull has made progress and seems to have an edge over Mercedes. Max is capable of winning because he has a lot of talent."
McLaren and AlphaTauri are the competitors
Leclerc would of course love to be part of this discussion himself, but also knows that's not likely to happen next season. However, after a miserable 2020, Ferrari do seem to have found their way back to the front this season. In Imola, it may even have been the third team on the grid, although the margins were small.
It will be no different in Portugal, according to the Monegasque. "I think it will be more or less the same, the battle with Alpha Tauri and McLaren promises to be tight, but I believe in the project because I know how we work internally and I know our potential," said Leclerc.
