While Nico Hulkenberg thinks Formula 1's new sprint-race format is "worthless", Helmut Marko is in favour of an extra race on Saturday. It still needs some tweaking, but the Austrian remains positive.

During the 2021 Formula One season, there will probably be a sprint race on Saturday during three race weekends. This sprint race is then the so-called qualifying for the main race on Sunday, but there may also be points waiting. While Hulkenberg does not like it, Marko is more positive.

Sprint race instead of DRS

''Of course many details still need to be clarified, but you have to give this a chance. Then you can always decide what to do in 2022. If you look at it realistically, most races in recent years have been very boring. So you have to do something. That's why we are positive about this plan," Marko told Servus TV.

The Red Bull Racing chief thinks DRS is much more artificial. ''DRS did not have the desired effect and in my opinion is much more artificial than a sprint race. Now you have a lot of cars chasing each other and you have a 'DRS train' and that doesn't help. That is why we are more positive about this proposal'', the Austrian concludes.
