On Thursday an important vote will take place for Red Bull Racing, but also for Formula 1. The organisation would like to organise sprint races in 2021 and needs permission from the teams. One circuit is already convinced.

Thursday's Formula 1 Commission Meeting could prove to be a very important consultation for the future of Formula 1. Not only is Red Bull anxiously waiting to see if it can buy Honda's engines and the freeze on engine development is brought forward to 2022 to make that possible, but F1 is also waiting for an answer.

Canada votes for it

Earlier this week, news emerged that Formula 1 wants to organise three sprint races in 2021. It would be three weekends, with one practice and one qualifying session on Friday, to determine the grid for the sprint race. In the sprint race a few points can be earned, after which the result of that race determines the starting grid for the race on Sunday.

Canada is mentioned as one of the locations to organise a sprint race, and they are enthusiastic. ''We have indeed had discussions about this. We are open to allowing this project to go ahead, but under the condition that the Grand Prix can go ahead,'' organiser Francois Dumontier told Canada's le Journal de Montreal.
