Lewis Hamilton won his seventh world title in Formula 1 last season. With the exception of the year in which he lost to Nico Rosberg, he is on an unprecedented run. One that his contemporaries can only look at with envy.

Former World Champions close to retirement

Because of the dominance of Hamilton and Mercedes, there are only three other drivers left on the current F1 grid who were also once World Champions. They are Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso and Sebastien Vettel. Hamilton now has as many titles as these greats put together.

In that respect it has been especially the last couple of years that have been fast, when Hamilton had no serious competition. If he is as dominant as he was last season he could also overtake the three in terms of Grand Prix victories. Together they have 106. Hamilton is now on 95.
