Against all odds, Pierre Gasly won an F1 race in 2020. And what a race. The Alpha Tauri driver took victory on the Italian Monza circuit. Gasly has been reflecting on his stunning win.

No time for celebration after victory

Mercedes was once again the dominant force in 2020. Max Verstappen intervened but could only win twice, but it was mainly Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly who surprised everyone with their victories. Although Gasly took his time on the podium, the Frenchman says he can only really enjoy his victory now.

Talking to Motorsport-total.com, the driver said: "I can remember every second of the race and podium ceremony. It is something I will never forget. It was such a packed year and there was barely time to rest and really enjoy the victory, because of COVID-19."

Victory Gasly shows possibilities

It was the second victory of the Alpha Tauri team. In 2008, Sebastian Vettel won with the team then called Scuderia Toro Rosso. Gasly's victory fits perfectly with the vision of the renamed Alpha Tauri team that wants to free itself from the shadow of Red Bull Racing.

"Every morning when I drink my coffee, the trophy is right in front of me. I think, 'Yes, we did it! It's not impossible, even though we are a midfield team."
