The engine problems that hindered Verstappen during qualifying at Imola will not occur again, Toyoharu Tanabe reassures in an interview with Autosportweb.

During qualifying at Imola, Verstappen suffered a broken spark plug, an unusual problem with the added fact that it wasn't an old part yet.

'By means of a durability test we can estimate the lifespan of a part' explains Tanabe. A safety test is also carried out. The estimation based on these tests showed that the part should have lasted even longer, and it can be concluded that there is no question of a structural error.

Could also have happened on Sunday

Tanabe also jokes that it is a good thing that the problem occurred in qualifying, and not during the race, especially given the nature of the problem. "I didn't know when the problem would occur."
