One of the big losers during the Grand Prix last weekend at the circuit of Imola was Alexander Albon. he finished in 15th after spinning after the restart near the end of the race. Robert Doornbos therefore thinks that the fate of the Red Bull driver is sealed.

"Albon suddenly had Sergio Perez breathing down his neck on his hard used tires and Daniil Kvyat was also in amazing form at that restart and Albon unfortunately wasn't," the former F1 driver explained in his column for Ziggo Sport. "He couldn't get the tires up to temperature. He's running out of excuses in that respect, because Ricciardo finished third on the same tire."

"If you look at his moment of glory this season, it's a podium finish in Mugello, then it was a DNF, outside the points and now outside the points again. So it's over for Alexander Albon, he's had his chance and he hasn't been able to take it."

No second chance for Albon

In the past, Red Bull have chosen several times to give failed talents at Red Bull Racing a second chance at Toro Rosso and later AlphaTauri, hence why Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat still drive there. However, Doornbos doesn't expect him to have the same lick

"Do I find it sad? Yes and no. You drive in Formula 1, then you are one of the best guys in the world and then bad performances are just punished. So I don't think I see him again in Formula 1. Something crazy has to happen for him to get a chance at AlphaTauri," added. Doornbos.
