Ferrari seem dissatisfied with Vettel: "Maybe you can expect more"

Mattia Binotto states that Ferrari got the answers they were looking for on Sunday. The team boss of the Maranello-based formation sees areas of future development. Binotto is very pleased with Charles Leclerc's fourth place, but seems to be disappointed that Sebastian Vettel only managed to get one World Championship point.

"To be honest, I don't think the podium was within reach," Binotto said in a conversation with Italy's Sky. Ferrari's goal was to achieve fourth place and Leclerc succeeded. "We are pleased with the race pace, today the car performed well in the longer stints, both on the mediums and hard tyres."

Ferrari didn't choose the softs

Leclerc chose to exchange the mediums for the white marked tyres when an option to move onto the softs was also available. "The mediums lasted longer than expected. I'm curious what happened to the softs. But we are happy, the car performed well, we are ahead of our direct competitors," said the Italian chief.

"Today was important. We made some changes that are also development choices in view of next year," he continues. "We were waiting for the answers and they have now come. We think we are right with the direction we have taken. We know which way we should go and we will continue as much as possible next year."

Binotto not completely happy

Vettel had to start from 15th place on the Portimao circuit. More than tenth place was not possible for the four-time world champion. "The cars of Seb and Charles are undoubtedly identical. I sincerely hope that Sebastian can qualify better at Imola and show what he is capable of during the race. Charles is certainly very good. But maybe you can expect even more from a second driver," Binotto seems a bit dissatisfied.
