Verstappen is ready: "Every weekend I want to challenge Mercedes"
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen has signed a multi-year contract with Red Bull Racing and the intention was that he would be able to fight for the championship this year with primary Lewis Hamilton. After all, this year is the only year that he could become the youngest world champion ever, but that's not there yet. Mercedes is once again dominant, but that does not demotivate the Dutchman at all.
Most beautiful job in the world
For years Mercedes has been the team to beat and every time another team thinks or seems to come close, they have found something to be just a little bit faster. That can be quite demotivating, because you are always running behind the facts. This was also presented to Verstappen, but according to him it is "stupid" to question the motivation.
"I don't understand why people think you wouldn't be motivated," he says to Motorsport.com. "You have one of the best jobs in the world, you're driving super fast cars. And I'm driving third or second, and I had one win. So I find it incredible that people think you wouldn't be motivated."
He's pretty fierce in his response, he continues: "It's really stupid. I love what I'm doing. Every weekend I come here and I love driving the car, and I want to of course try to challenge them [Mercedes], but if it's not possible I settle for the best result possible in the car I have, and then I'm still enjoying it." Despite the gap to Mercedes, the Dutchman remains combative, because the battle for the championship is not over yet.
