It has been almost exactly one year since Pierre Gasly was put back in a Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri by Helmut Marko after only half a season at Red Bull Racing. Now that things are going well again, the Frenchman reflects on whether a step back was a good development for him.

"If I could have avoided that, it would have been better, because with Red Bull there were clearly much bigger things to achieve together," says Gasly to The-Race.com. "But in the end, the situation was no different."

Mental resilience is positive side of the story

So he would have preferred to stay in the second seat next to Max Verstappen, especially now that he sees that Alexander Albon is not doing much better. Gasly has shown since his return to AlphaTauri that he is structurally faster than Daniil Kvyat. Something with which he also shows mental resilience.

"It gave me the opportunity to show my mental strength, that I am not someone who gives up. Even though it felt quite unfair last year, I kept my feelings under control and tried to maximize all the chances I had afterwards".
