Where Alexander Albon seems to be getting the time to boost his performance at Red Bull Racing, Pierre Gasly was not able to do the same. After half a season, the young Frenchman had to make way after failing to make an impression. One year later Gasly is still not convinced by the decision.

"Red Bull has known me for years, of course. They've put me in all series, prior to Formula 1. Formula Renault 3.5, Formula 2, Super Formula... And I've been competitive in every class. So I don't doubt myself," Gasly told De Telegraaf.

The 24-year old driver is very confident in the pinnacle of motorsport, but he added that he also needs a competitive car. "I know I'm fast. In any car, if I have the right equipment in my hands", he continues his story. Gasly is convinced that Helmut Marko knows that too. "Red Bull chose me as Daniel Ricciardo's successor for a reason. They knew of my speed and potential."

After the summer break it was Toro Rosso driver Alexander Albon who replaced Gasly as the teammate of Max Verstappen. "I know the reasons why it only took six months at Red Bull. I can't elaborate too much on that because a lot of things are confidential", the current AlphaTauri rider remains a bit shady. "I'm showing now that I'm feeling good and performing well. But I do think the breakup with Red Bull could have been avoided. We could have achieved great things together."
