Last year Formula 1 entered the summer break after the Hungarian Grand Prix and that is a break that Pierre Gasly will remember for a long time. In this period he was returned to Toro Rosso in favour of Alexander Albon. This due to disappointing performances and nowadays the Frenchman is back in place with his old team. A promotion to the top, however, he considers small.

Difficult weekend for Red Bull Racing

Gasly unfortunately dropped out last weekend due to engine problems, but he also saw Red Bull Racing struggling with the circuit and the lack of speed. This surprised the Frenchman somewhat. To Motorsport-Total he says: "They have always fought there for victories or at least podium finishes. This weekend looked a little more difficult."

Nevertheless, the Red Bull is faster than the car of AlphaTauri in which Gasly drives, so he was asked if he doesn't look at the top team with some jealousy. "I'm a Red Bull contract driver and you always want to be in the fastest car. They currently have the fastest car among the Red Bull teams."

In other words, Gasly sees a return, but estimates the odds pretty low. "Max has signed for several years and Alex has strong support from Thailand. I don't know if that will change in the future." With that idea in mind, Gasly is currently focusing mainly on his work at AlphaTauri.

Doing a good job

He argues that if he does a good job here, new opportunities will present themselves. "I'm trying to do my best with the team and I'm happy to make progress when we can and when I have the right material." In other words, he focuses completely on his own future and he is not necessarily involved with the top team.

"I don't have much to say about it," Gasly says when asked if Albon has a lot of trouble with Verstappen. "I don't know what Alex's situation is. I know my situation and I know what it was like at Red Bull. I have the explanations for me why it didn't work. With Alex... I don't know what's happening for him now."
