AlphaTauri currently has a very experienced duo with Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat at its disposal. The Faenza-based livery stable has seen both drivers competing for Red Bull Racing in the past, but Gasly and Kvyat are now competing for the smaller AlphaTauri. Team boss Franz Tost explains how that's possible.

"They both came back to us after a period at Red Bull. That was mainly because the step had come too early for them", Tost states in the podcast Delta Time. According to the Austrian, there were only few other options at the time that Sebastian Vettel left for Ferrari. "Daniil was simply the logical successor, but he only had one season's experience in Formula 1."

Kvyat made the transition from the GP3 to the royal class of motorsport. "That was a big step. He did very well, but at Red Bull the circumstances were not favorable to him at that time". After the Grand Prix in Sochi in 2016 the Russian driver was replaced by Max Verstappen.

Same struggles Gasly

Pierre Gasly had to make Daniel Ricciardo forget in 2019, but he didn't come into his own at the Austrian stable of Christian Horner and Helmut Marko either. "The same story applies to Pierre. His start of the season was difficult and due to his involvement in some crashes he was unable to show his true speed", Tost concluded by saying that AlphaTauri is very satisfied with the work of the two men.
