Karun Chandhok on Lewis Hamilton: "That man has been sensational since his debut"
Mercedes have dominated Formula 1 since the start of the V6 hybrid era. Coming into the 2020 season many thought that Red Bull Racing and Ferrari would be closer and perhaps they would have been in Australia. However, former F1 racer Karun Chandhok still doubts how competitive Ferrari will be when the season finally starts.
Can Ferrari win?
"In 2017 Sebastian Vettel could have won the title, in 2018 Vettel had to win the title and in 2019 the team could have been much closer to Mercedes. It is clear that Ferrari has not made the most of their car in recent years. That's not my opinion, but just the facts," Chandhok said in his Sky Sports column.
"They have the money, the people, the facilities and the drivers to attack Mercedes, but can they really beat Mercedes? The past has taught us something else in the meantime."
How good is Lewis Hamilton?
Lewis Hamilton has been at the top of the sport for much of his career. For some reason, his talent is still questioned by many who follow the sport. Chandhok doesn't understand this.
"I'm done with people saying we're on Hamilton's hand," he said. "That man has been sensational since entering Formula 1 and has won more than half of the championships he competed in. He might also have had to win in 2007 and 2016, so in my opinion you can't get around how good he is."
"Charles Leclerc will be even better for 2020, as he was getting better in 2019. Vettel had some good races at the end of the season, but he doesn't always get the speed out and makes mistakes that don't match his status."
It is unclear as to when the F1 season will officially start but it looks like it will be close at the top when it does finally start.
