Haas: "Frankly, I'm hoping the 2020 car will bring us back to 2018 form"
Haas are the first team to reveal their car for the 2020 Formula 1 season. They have returned to their old colour scheme which was present on the cars before the Rich Energy deal started.
In 2019, the team experienced a season in which Haas drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen would like to forget about as quickly as possible. After battling with Renault for the 'best of the rest' position a year earlier, Haas could only keep Williams in their mirrors. Gene Haas is pretty on returning to the form from the 2018 season.
“I’m pleased to see the car return to the more familiar Haas Automation colours, it’s certainly a livery that people identify with," Haas said.
“Frankly, I’m hoping the VF-20 will return us to the kind of form we ran in 2018 when we finished fifth in the constructors’ championship. 2019 was a tough season to endure. We’ve been through a real education process, one that comes to all Formula One teams at some stage," he added.
Learning the lessons
At one point during last season, Grosjean and Magnussen were running two different chassis as the Frenchman was confident the first spec that the team raced with in Australia was better than the spec with all the upgrades. Haas goes on to report that he hopes the team have learnt a lot of lessons from this experience.
"I’m trusting we’ve learned from those lessons and have applied that knowledge into making the VF-20 a more competitive entry. It’s important to me that we’re back in the mix and consistently scoring points, we certainly have the capability and we’ve proved as an organization we can do it," Haas said.
