Kevin Magnussen: "I have had offers, but Haas was clearly the best option"
2019 was a dreadful season for Haas. However, Kevin Magnussen is hopeful that 2020 is going to be a more competitive season. The team started developing the car for this year very early on and are confident that the biggest problems with their package are now fixed.
Better downforce
One of the areas Haas needs to improve is the amount of downforce.
"What I know is that last year's car scored downforce on a few points in the wind tunnel, but there was a difference between that and the track. It was a huge difference," Magnussen said to BT newspaper.
"We clearly have better downforce this year and we have done things to make the difference a lot smaller. So if it works, it looks good."
Haas don't have long until they can see if their changes have worked and will hope to be competitive in winter testing.
Haas is the best option
Magnussen chose to continue racing with Haas despite having other options.
"Yes, I have had offers, but Haas was clearly the best option. When I was still with Renault, I felt that Haas was really after me. They had done really well as a new team and I took the opportunity that I did not regret."
However, it was a disappointing season last year and Magnussen is still a long way from achieving his dream of becoming a world champion.
"I would lie if I said it would not be so," he said when asked if he was frustrated.
He continues: "I am in Formula 1 because my dream is to become world champion. It is not in the top 10 and if I can't even beat Romain, the big teams won't look at me."
Magnussen will hope that 2020 will be a more competitive year and that he can attract a faster team that will be capable of helping him achieving his dream.
