Mattia Binotto has been impressed with Charles Leclerc's leadership in his first season with Ferrari. The Monégasque racer performed well, beating his four-time world champions teammate in the driver's championship.

“His season has been outstanding for what he achieved in the first year. We should not only look at the speed on track but the way he’s interacting with the engineers, his leadership of the team,” Binotto said to Formula1.com.

Ferrari did not perform how they would have wanted to and there are areas that the team can improve.

“Pit stops were also not good enough. On many occasions, ours were over six seconds, which is not acceptable for a Ferrari team. And when you have to be perfect to win, you need to be perfect as well from a team point of view and mechanics and pit stops.

“It’s not a matter of skills. It’s not a matter of individuals. After all, the way we are approaching the problems is through practice. It’s through a lot of training. A lot of analysis, a lot of tools. It’s a lot of methodologies showing that we need to improve ourselves 360 degrees. And that’s the challenge we are facing for the next year.”

Ferrari will have their heads down over the winter looking to improve themselves ready to compete for 2020.
