Ferrari aiming to pick "drivers with experience" for 2021 F1 season
Mattia Binotto says it will be important for Ferrari to sign "drivers with experience" for the 2021 F1 season because of the new cars. The sport will welcome a rule and regulation overhaul in just 12 months time. The changes will create very different cars in the hope of making the sport more eye-catching.
Mick Schumacher is one of the drivers tipped for a Formula 1 debut in 2021. That obviously unlikely to be at Ferrari, but the Ferrari team boss hints at what could possibly be on his criteria.
"Will he [Mick Schumacher] be a good candidate for Ferrari? It's really too early to say that. For 2021, it will be important to have drivers with experience, because the cars will be completely new. But I am pretty sure that he is a good candidate for Formula 1," Binotto said in an end of season meeting with journalists.
One of the most experienced drivers on the grid, Lewis Hamilton, seems to be on his shopping list. Other than that, the Italian team already have Sebastian Vettel who made his debut in 2007.
