Charles Leclerc has enjoyed a pretty successful season in his first year at Ferrari, taking seven pole positions and two victories as he finished fourth in the drivers' standings, and now his team boss has showered him with praise following just his second year in the sport.

Leclerc took two emotional victories following the summer break in Belgium and Italy, but could and probably should have won a few more, but nevertheless, outscoring his far more experienced teammate Sebastian Vettel shows a success of a season, and Binotto was happy with the Monegasque's performances.

Binotto said, according to F1only.fr: "We are very happy with him, his season has been exceptional.

"I think Charles surprised everyone, not just me. He is very fast and has managed to handle the pressure all season long.

"When we started the season, the situation was different. We had a young pilot and an experienced pilot. But if you look at the last races, they were quite free to run and that's where we start.

"The 2019 book is closed and we are starting a new one. We have already started a new trip and we need patience. We are doing everything we can, because the fans deserve victories."
