Max Verstappen believes that Aston Martin Red Bull Racing's title hopes and his future will come down to a fast start to the season in 2020. In the past couple of seasons, The Dutchman's team have been well behind the top two in the standings.

He is fully aware that if he wants to be taken as a serious title challenger then he can't afford for this to happen from the outset in 2020.

"We just hope that we can be more competitive next year," Verstappen was quoted by Motorsport.com.

"We know that we have to be competitive from the start and want to be able to fight for the title. So we are putting all our efforts into that.

"It's not going to be easy, but we're going to go for it. We're going to try everything we can.”

The 22-year-old runs out of contract next year and may become an obvious candidate to drive for Mercedes if the constructors' champions lose Lewis Hamilton.
