Pierre Gasly highlights difficulty for Toro Rosso to catch Renault on present form
- Bobby Vincent
Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly believes it will be difficult for his team to catch Renault in the Constructors' Championship between now and the final three races with their present good form.
Daniel Ricciardo finished eighth in Mexico, with his Renault team-mate Nico Hulkenberg finishing two places below the Aussie driver for a double-points finish for the French works team.
Toro Rosso are on 64 points - level with Racing Point - in sixth-place, just nine points below Renault, and Gasly is happy with the way things are going since returning to the squad following his demotion from Red Bull.
"The goal is to keep going like it has been since I came back to Toro Rosso in Spa," Gasly said to Crash.net. "I'm really happy with the way we work with the team, with the new engineers and the new car, and I'm happy with the way we perform every weekend.
"We're in a tight battle in the championship. It's important to take every single point we can and the plan is to keep on going."
Despite being happy with his team's overall progress, Gasly thinks it could prove too difficult to catch Renault: "I know the gap looks small, but for us it is quite big. If we can get one or two points on them every weekend, I think it's possible."
