Gasly was "unable to move forward" following crashes in winter test
It has been a rough week for Pierre Gasly let alone the rest of the season and Helmut Marko believes Gasly never really recovered from the crashes he suffered during winter testing.
Gasly stepped up to Red Bull following the departure of Daniel Ricciardo who was unable to agree on a new deal and moved to Renault. However, the step-up has been too much for the Frenchman struggling to match the pace of his rivals.
Having finished a lap behind the leaders in Hungary Red Bull took the decision to drop him to Toro Rosso for the remainder of the season with Alex Albon stepping up from the Belgian Grand Prix.
Gasly crashed during winter testing setting the team back with issues and parts which Marko believes he was never able to recover from it.
"Not just once, but twice. Yes, his crashes had a great effect on the team’s test programs. We were short on parts, and faced issues completing our tests," Marko told Auto Sport Web in Japan.
"Definitely so [Gasly felt responsible]. And he was unable to move forward, even as the season started."
