"Honda will have a successful future in Formula One"
Toro Rosso's team principal Franz Tost is confident that Honda will succeed in Formula 1. So far the Japanese company has surprised fans and pundits with their performances so far this season with Toro Rosso and Red Bull. The Power Unit supplier is, in fact, one of only two engines to have won a race so far this season. Tost predicts that Honda will win a Championship in the near future.
“Honda is a world-known company," Tost said. "We were very happy when Honda decided to work with us as I am confident that Honda will have a successful future in Formula One.
"They have shown multiple times before that they are able to design successful Formula One engines. Compared to last year, they have made enormous steps forward and they also have a promising development program. They plan to introduce a few changes to the engine to further close in on the top [manufacturers].”
Honda still has things to improve on and will want to please Toro Rosso and Red Bull in the second half of the season.
“They have to improve regarding their qualifying modes," Tost said. "Honda is aware of that as well. Apart from that, they are on the right path with their development steps.”
The return of Honda has been great for Formula 1 and having another engine capable of winning races is a real boost for the sport. It will be interesting to see if they can push Mercedes and Ferrari for world titles in the near future.
