Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has made it clear that the team intend on keeping Pierre Gasly “in the car until the end of the year” after various rumours about a potential replacement.

Over the past few weeks Gasly has come under fire for his lack of performances for Red Bull and many have called for him to be replaced at Red Bull already.

He finished a high of fourth at Silverstone but crash out of a comfortable points position at the German Grand Prix and struggled to make an impact in comparison to teammate Max Verstappen in Hungary, finishing sixth.

But Horner hopes that the summer break will serve as a time for him to reflect on the season so far and learn from it during the second half of the year.

He said (quoted by Autosport): "I think he really needs to take some time out during the summer break, reflect on the first half of the season and take the lessons from that into the second half of the year.

"It is vital for us if we are to stand any chance of catching Ferrari that we have him finishing further ahead."

Red Bull are currently 44 points behind Ferrari in the constructor’s championship, despite the Scuderia not winning any races so far and Horner may have to change his line-up but won’t do so until the end of the year.

"Our intention is to leave him in the car until the end of the year,” Horner added.

"But we desperately need to see him realising more of the potential of the car."
