Binotto: Ferrari updates not working as expected
- Jake Williams-Smith
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has admitted that some of the upgrades brought to the SF90 for the French Grand Prix are not working as intended.
During the French Grand Prix weekend, Ferrari trialled a new front and rear wing as well as a new floor, the latter was actually removed from the car after unsatisfactory results during practice.
In qualifying, Ferrari was comfortably beaten away by Mercedes who looked in a class of its own on both Saturday and Sunday, with the Silver Arrows taking yet another one-two win in 2019.
Speaking after the race, Binotto admitted that while there had been signs of progress since the Spanish Grand Prix, there was still a lot of work to be done for the Italian team.
"The developments we have introduced since the Spanish GP have allowed us to close the gap and we have shown that we are on the right path," Binotto stated.
"Some of these updates have proved to be very useful, others unfortunately less so, but we know that we have potential to improve significantly.
"At this point, we are confident, aware that there is still a lot to do, but that we have the ability to develop the car and to be competitive on all tracks.”
