Juan Pablo Montoya fears it will be very difficult for Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing to become world champions in 2025. The former Formula One driver does not even believe the world champion is still the clear favourite for the world title next year.

Montoya: 'Impossible to see Verstappen as favourite'

"I think it will be very difficult. Unless Red Bull makes a big move next year, I think it will be very difficult for Max to become champion with the car he has at the moment. They don't have the speed they need. The car is not that fast," Montoya said in conversation with Marca.

He therefore does not see the four-time world champion as the favourite for next year. "I think if you have seen the races and the last few years in F1, it is impossible to consider Max as the favourite. You have to wait and see what Red Bull comes up with, but I would say the title next year will go between the McLarens and maybe Ferrari. I would give a Mercedes more chance next year than a Red Bull," Montoya shared.

Verstappen himself also indicated that if his team continues this way, he will not become world champion next year. Despite this, the Dutch driver is confident that Red Bull know what they have to work on to solve this year's balance problems.
