F1 LIVE | The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix with Norris on pole, Verstappen P2
It's race day at the Singapore Grand Prix. After a disastrous P15 last time out in qualifying, Lando Norris secured an important pole position around the Marina Bay Circuit as he keeps pushing to challenge Max Verstappen in the drivers' championship. However, the Dutchman took P2 and will line up alongside the Brit. Lewis Hamilton was able to round out the top three ahead of George Russell and Oscar Piastri in P4 and P5, respectively. The weekend in Baku so far
Changeable conditions with the track surface and the tyre temperature has led to multiple changes in the pecking order throughout the weekend around the Marina Bay Circuit, and Sunday's race will not be any different. McLaren and Ferrari looked to have the upper hand from Friday's free practice session, as Red Bull looked to be faltering once again in Singapore, and Mercedes said it was one of their worst Fridays in recent memory.
However, with teams either struggling or succeeding in getting their setups and tyres in the correct window for qualifying, it led to some interesting results. However, McLaren's consistency continued, as it has done for most of 2024, as Lando Norris took a fantastic pole position. However, an improved Red Bull showed it has some pace as Max Verstappen took a very handy P2 for Red Bull as they look to regain their constructors' championship lead. The same can be said for Mercedes. They were able to bring the tyres and the balance to life in Q3, giving Lewis Hamilton a great P3 ahead of George Russell in P4. Behind the Brit is Oscar Piastri in P5, who struggled a bit more to find a good rhythm and was unable to get onto the front two rows.
A brilliant P6 for Nico Hulkenberg meant he was the best of the rest, with Fernando Alonso right behind him in P7, and Yuki Tsunoda too in eighth place, all extremely happy with their results. However, it was a different story for Ferrari. Charles Leclerc looked like one of the protagonists in the pole position battle, but he could only put his Ferrari into P9. An earlier crash in Q3 for Carlos Sainz brought out the red flag, and that means he starts in P10 after no setting a lap. But Sergio Perez could not even make it into Q3 as he had the biggest struggles, only able to take his RB20 to P13.
