Wolff says certain factors 'must have an effect' on Red Bull's decline

Toto Wolff is amazed at Red Bull Racing's regresses in performance after their ultra-dominant 2023 Formula 1 season, with the Mercedes team boss believing that the departure of several prominent team members may have played a role in this.
Wolff on Red Bull's 'incredible' decline
While Mercedes are showing an upward trend as the 2024 season progresses, with three Grand Prix victories to their name this season, Red Bull is lagging behind. "It's incredible how things have deteriorated for them," Wolff began in conversation with Austrian OE24.
The Mercedes boss thinks that the departure of prominent Red Bull team members has had a big effect on the team and their performance. "If you lose so many important people, that must somehow have an effect," he continues. In recent months, both Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley announced their departures from the Austrian team, with both now going to work for other F1 teams in 2025.
Wolff was also asked if Aston Martin will now become a "dream team" after they signed technical mastermind Newey. The Mercedes team boss answered, "Aston Martin could become a team to reckon with as early as 2026. They also have a great manager in Andy Cowell (former Mercedes performance engineer, ed.), who can make the team excel."
