The French Alpine team has overcome the dreaded frontal crash test, but failed the lateral crash test. The presentation for the A524 is scheduled for 7 February, so time is running out.

Alpine has still not received approval for its car's chassis for 2024, reports Motorsport Italy. However, technical director Matt Harman has made adjustments to the car. For instance, the packaging between the chassis and the Renault power unit has been adjusted, and the position of the various side accessories has also been revised.

Alpine failed the lateral crash test

So, the frontal crash test was passed, which Red Bull Racing had to do again. The lateral test is where anti-intrusion has to be guaranteed with a static test where a load of 300 kN is applied to the sides. Looking for maximum frame density, the test was unsuccessful for Alpine.

With the car presentation on 7 February, time is running out to get FIA approval. When Alpine may make another attempt to test their sides, it is not known.
