Red Bull learned from Brazil: 'Here we could prove ourselves again'
- GPblog.com
After a mediocre weekend in Brazil, Red Bull Racing again proved it has the fastest car for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez crossed the line first and second in qualifying. According to the Dutchman, the team learned a lot from the previous race.
The weekend in Brazil looked slightly different because of the final sprint race of the season. As a result, qualifying was already held on Friday and drivers were only given two practice sessions to prepare for the weekend. However, teams were not allowed to make any more adjustments to the car during the second free practice, as the session takes place after qualifying. Red Bull turned out to have chosen the wrong set-up in the end.
"I think we made a few errors in hindsight in Brazil, but it also didn't help that we had one practice session [before qualifying] and then everything is locked in. Sometimes it can work for you and this we didn't get it right. We've understood already a few things from Brazil," Verstappen began in conversation with Sky Sports.
Red Bull proved itself again
The gap towards Ferrari and Mercedes was ultimately big in qualifying. ""Luckily, we could prove it again that once we have the car under control that we will be quick again here."" Verstappen will go for the win on Sunday, but he will also help teammate Perez for second place in the championship. It would be the first time ever that Red Bull has finished first and second in the drivers' championship. ""We are all on the same page and want the same," he said.
