Final starting grid GP Japan | Gasly from the pits, grid penalty Latifi
- GPblog.com
It was just announced that Pierre Gasly will start from the pit lane in the Japanese Grand Prix. AlphaTauri opted to make adjustments to his front and rear wings during the Parc Fermé and so he will not start from P17. It makes for a slight change to the starting grid.
Gasly starts from pits, grid penalty for Latifi at P20
Gasly will therefore start from the pits, leaving Kevin Magnussen, Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi moving up a place on the grid. The latter received a five-place grid penalty for the collision he caused with Guanyu Zhou at the Singapore Grand Prix, but it will not hurt much as the Canadian starts from last place anyway.
Max Verstappen took his fifth pole position of the 2022 Formula 1 season in Japan. It may well prove crucial, as the Dutchman is on his second match point and could potentially clinch his second world title on Sunday. To do so, however, he will have to hold off the Ferrarisof Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
