Max Verstappen, along with Red Bull Racing, showed an awe-inspiring pace during the Grand Prix weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. This also impressed Peter Windsor, who has nothing but praise for Verstappen, but also has an honourable mention for Adrian Newey, who ensured that Red Bull were completely unaffected by the FIA's new technical directive.

Windsor is impressed by the "dazzling display of pace" Red Bull Racing showed as Verstappen poked through the field, he says in his video analysis on his YouTube-channel. "Not only on the straights, but also in the medium and slow corners. The Red Bulls were the absolute class of the field, and Max Verstappen made perfect use of it."

An early safety car interrupted the advance, but after this Verstappen needed just four laps to reach P3. "They were all clean passes. At the top of the hill, at the end of the straight, at the end of the chicane - just incredibly fast, everywhere. Quick and clean," the analyst continued. In the process, Verstappen was over a second faster than the rest of the field. "It wasn't long to take the lead."

Adrian Newey can take a bow too

As far as Windsor is concerned, Adrian Newey can also take a bow. Against Mercedes' expectations, the master designer proved to have ensured that the FIA's new technical directive had no effect on the RB18. "This race was the first when the FIA scrutineers were truly policing the new technical directive. They obviously got that sorted. It looks like they haven't lost anything - in fact, it looks like they've gained something," Windsor concluded.
