Hamilton not talking to Alonso: 'I would have until I heard what he said'
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton indicated after the Belgian Grand Prix that he was guilty of the incident in the opening stages with Fernando Alonso, but the two-time world champion does not have to count on a personal apology (anymore). The Mercedes driver refused to do so from the moment he heard Alonso's team radio.
Alonso lets loose on team radio
It is a well-known fact that Hamilton and Alonso are not good friends. In the 2007 season, things didn't work out between the drivers at McLaren and fifteen years later, the two are still not on good terms, despite rarely meeting on track. On the first lap of the Belgian GP there was a touché between Hamilton and Alonso, with the former at fault. Alonso was furious and let it be known over the team radio. "What an idiot! Closing the gap from the outside. I mean, we had a mega start but this guy only knows how to drive and start in first."
Hamilton not happy with words of Alonso
Afterwards, Hamilton was confronted in the square with Alonso's choice of words. To, amongst others, The Guardian Hamilton stated that he would not go back to his rival to apologise. "No. I would have until I heard what he said. I know that’s how things feel in the heat of the moment, but it’s nice to know how he feels about me.”
Alonso was able to continue his way and eventually finished fifth at Spa-Francorchamps. Hamilton suffered too much damage in the incident and Sunday was soon over for him. The record-breaking champion is glad he suffered no injuries. "I remember looking at the ground, it was definitely high up. I’m grateful to be still alive and in shape,” he concluded.
