People and teams inside and outside F1 world rally behind Hamilton
- GPblog.com
After the racist remarks of Nelson Piquet Sr. against Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver can count on many expressions of support from people inside and outside Formula 1. According to many, Hamilton is important in the fight for diversity in the sport.
Expressions of support for Hamilton
Piquet used the N-word in an interview when talking about Hamilton. This led to many messages of support for Hamilton on Tuesday, who himself issued a statement earlier in the day. For example, George Russell said that Hamilton has done more than anyone for the sport and McLaren as a team said that Formula 1 must come together in the fight against racism.
Huge respect to LH. He has done more for the sport than any driver in history, not just on track but off it. The fact that he and so many others are STILL having to deal with this behaviour is unacceptable. We all need to stand together against discrimination of any kind. https://t.co/E4c1jFQKtf

Racism must be driven out of our sport, and it’s our shared responsibility to unite and eliminate it.
Once again we are reminded about how fundamentally important it is to have Sir Lewis Hamilton in our sport. #F1 would be a far poorer place without him. A lot of you held Piquet to account and kept banging the drum - you deserve credit too.
