Sergio Perez has narrowed the gap towards Max Verstappen in the head-to-head qualifying duel. For the third time this season the Mexican managed to beat his teammate. For Carlos Sainz it is starting to become a painful year. Charles Leclerc proved faster for the eighth time in a row.

Furthermore, the Lewis Hamilton of 2021 is no longer the Lewis Hamilton of 2022. George Russell went around faster than the seven-time world champion for the fifth time this Saturday, a stellar performance. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo 's draught is still not over. The difference with Lando Norris was exactly two tenths less than normal, but the Australian will undoubtedly have hoped for more.

Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso increased the gap to their stablemate after a fine performance in Baku. It is also noteworthy that rookie Guanyu Zhou is faster than veteran Valtteri Bottas for the first time this season. Still, Alfa Romeo will have hoped for more than a fourteenth and fifteenth place prior to this weekend.
